Happy New Year 2025

Happy New Year 2025!  I have plans for a lot of adventures in 2025.

Starting out, I plan to meet my coworker at the pool tomorrow morning, before work.  I'm working on a plan to get to the gym after work, also.  I am still working on fixing my foot pain, so it's been a process.

I met my 2024 reading goal, but not my gym goal.  I set my 2025 reading goal on Goodreads.  I already finished one book, but I am working on publishing reviews for books I finished last year, too.

I have a few ARC and Beta reads to work on.  I have to finish a lot before taking more on.  This is a work in progress.  Keeping my schedule to a dull roar.

I hope to schedule in more writing time and gym time.  I still have not figured out how to combine these two things fully.  Audiobooks and reading on the treadmill are options, but aren't always great if I have another person with me.   I'm sure I will figure it out.

I have been working on getting enough sleep.  I do think that I'm getting better at it, but it's going to continue to be a challenge as long as I am getting up early to get stuff done before work.

What are you up to?  Add to my Google doc and let me know!  The Google doc is General Comments

Reduce! Reuse! Recycle! by T.J. Klune - Review

Reduce! Reuse! Recycle! by T.J. Klune

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I picked this up because I enjoyed the author's other works and the narrator.

I found this just kinda ok. I definitely liked other stories better. This was part of a series and I hadn't read the other book, so that might be part of the issue I had with it.

I can't recommend it but I don't discourage anyone from reading it.

Mommy Has a Monster on Her Back! : A Story about Chronic Illness by Liz Long - Review

Mommy Has a Monster on Her Back! : A Story about Chronic Illness by Liz Long

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I picked this up on a whim.

This book is great for kids whose parent might have some kind of chronic illness. It helps explain that sometimes this are great, and sometimes they are not quite so great. The illustrations go well with the explanations.

I recommend this book.

Let It Glow by Marissa Meyer - Review

Let It Glow by Marissa Meyer

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I picked this up because I enjoyed the author's previous work.

I found this very much just ok. It was predictable but I felt that the characters would have made different decisions in real life. Their decisions lead to the predictability.

It would be a good book for a younger reader.

Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked this up because I enjoyed the author's other works.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't read the second book in the series first. I loved the characters and I hope some more of the side characters get their own stories, too.

I recommend this book.

The Real Deal by Lauren Blakely - Review

The Real Deal by Lauren Blakely

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked this up because I had enjoyed the author's other work.

I enjoyed the story, fully knowing how it would end up. The journey to the end was fun and I read through this quickly.

I recommend the book.

The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore - Review

The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this for a bookclub choice.

I enjoyed it immensely! The characters were all believable and well written. They all fit together well. I also enjoyed the mini book recommendations written into the story.

I highly recommend this book.

The Answer Is No by Fredrik Backman - Review

The Answer Is No by Fredrik Backman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was introduced to this author earlier this year. I enjoyed his other work, so I was thrilled to find this one.

I love how the story circles back to the nonsense of the frying pan. Something so simple started all of the trouble. It was a great story about how people stop thinking when there is a group of them. I laughed so many times while reading this.

I highly recommend this book.

According to Bookriot, this is the list of the Best Historical Fiction of 2024.  This is a short list, but from the list, I read James by Percival Everett.  I truly enjoyed it and can completely see why it showed up on this list.  I'll be posting my review of it later.

I'll be adding some of the other books to my "Want to Read" list soon.

Are you looking to get your reading goal off to a good start?  100 Short Reads on Goodreads is a list that can help.  There are quite a few books on it that are already on my "Want to Read" shelf.  There are a few on there that I have already read over the years.  This isn't a list of new books, but it's a good list.  It's worth checking it out.

Ceramics Class Pickup

My daughter and I took a hand building ceramics class in November and December.  Yesterday was the day that we picked up the finished items, after they were fired.  Here are the ones that I did.  My daughter is much better at these things than I am.  Mine all have character.  You mostly can tell what they are, but they are definitely not perfect.  I think I'll be sticking to other projects in the future.  It was fun, but I'm definitely better at other things.

James by Percival Everett - Review

James by Percival Everett

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I picked this up for a bookclub read, and because I had heard a lot about it.

I was not disappointed at all. This book was great. You could feel what James was feeling and really relate to the characters. I wish that I had read Huckleberry Finn before reading this, though, so I could tell what the changes were.

I highly recommend this book.

The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore - Review

The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I picked this up after several people recommended it.

The story was just fine, but the narrator just read the book. There was no enthusiasm in the narration. It was like listening to a wet sock dry. The narrator might have been better reading a story with fewer spicy parts in it.

I might recommend the book, but not the audiobook, since the narration was lacking luster.

2025 Planned books is where I am posting the books I am working on monthly.  It's also keeping my page count.  I also track on Goodreads, if you want to keep up with my actual reading this year.

Booked for the Holidays by Liz Maverick - Review

Booked for the Holidays by Liz Maverick

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I picked this up because I enjoyed the author's other work.

I really enjoyed the story, and I could see these characters falling into the Winter's Nights series. They are so much fun and well written. I hope to read more by this author soon.

I recommend this book.

And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson - Review

And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked this up because it was under discussion on a video, so I wanted to read it myself.

I really enjoyed this book, but I question that it is labeled as fiction. It seems that the story is true and it even is stated in the book that the facts are true. It still would make a good story for a young reader.

I do recommend this book.

This Book Is Gay by Juno Dawson

This Book Is Gay by Juno Dawson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked this up in an effort to work my way down the list of banned books.

I found the information mostly good, and mostly accurate. It was a little dated, but most of the information still stands.

I recommend this book.
