What Have You Been Reading?
I got a book recommendation from Facebook. "What if Bridgerton added an orc?"Â
It makes me wonder what Facebook thinks I've been reading

The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club by Helen Simonson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I picked this up because it showed up on a list of great historical fiction books.
I struggled to get into this book, and it just never grabbed me. I never felt any connection to any of the characters and it seemed like nothing happened for a very very long time.
I do not recommend this book.
What have I been up to?
I haven't been writing much lately because I've been busy out there having adventures. I had a trip to Disneyland at the end of January. I got sick after Disneyland and spent time trying to recover. I'm still having a little of the cough.
I managed to lose my debit card and headphones when I came back from Disneyland. I found them two weeks later, after I had ordered a new card and new headphones. Luckily, I didn't open the headphones, so I am able to return them. Unfortunately, I have to print a label and send them off in a box instead of just scanning the QR code at UPS. A minor inconvenience, but I still have time to do it.
I became Yelp elite toward the end of 2024, so I have been able to go to several Yelp events.  Some of them have been delicious. Some have just been annoying. I hope to do more of them in the future, so I can go to a variety of new places.
I have been reading as usual, but haven't done much, review-wise. I'm working on getting reviews written this week. I'm way behind, but I'll catch up as I can.
Always a Bridesmaid by Erin Clark
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I picked this up because it was a freebie on Audible.
I really enjoyed all of the characters in this book. I am hoping this is a part of a series, since I would love to hear more about the characters who were the minor characters in the book. The plot of this was good, and I loved the small twists that were happening during all of the story.
I recommend this book.
My Girls: A Lifetime with Carrie and Debbie by Todd Fisher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I picked this up because it showed up on a list of recommended nonfiction books.
I enjoyed learning a lot about the family. I had very little knowledge about them other than what was on screen and that the two women died a day apart from each other. This was very well written and I enjoyed it a lot.
I recommend this book.
Icebreaker by Hannah Grace
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I picked this up because of multiple recommendations.
This was a perfect combination of story and smut. It didn't feel overwhelmingly smutty, even though there was quite a bit of it in the book. It felt natural rather than forced for the story. I look forward to more books in this series
I recommend this book.
The Pengrooms by Paul Castle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I picked this up after listening to the author speak about one of his other books.
This is a cute children's book about penguins who make a great team but aren't perfect. Just like people. It was very cute. The illustrations were perfect for the words.
I recommend this book.

Sister Friend by Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I picked this up from the library on a whim.
I enjoyed the story and the illustrations. I felt that there wasn't much explanation about what was going on with the little girls's relationship. It would seem to me that the girls would have known what to say on the first day they met, but it wasn't clear why they didn't.
I neither recommend nor don't recommend this book. It seems to have a limited audience.
My Heart Is Like a Zoo by Michael Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I picked this up because of a recommendation.
I loved the little love poem that goes along with the cute animals made out of hearts. How creative!
I highly recommend this book.
Grown with Love by Valeria Wicker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I picked this up because of a review.
I LOVED this book! It was a cute gardening story that I could relate to all too well. I can't keep a plant alive for anything. I don't think my issue is the same as the character in the book, but I totally get it. The illustrations were perfect, and so was the story.
I highly recommend this book.
